Jaguar Land RoverandChery Automobile to set up manufacturing unit in china

Mumbai Tata motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Chery Automobile are setting up a new manufacturing facility in China in a joint venture as part of a 10.9 billion investment plans.

"Jaguar Land Rover and Chery will now accelerate plans to build a joint venture manufacturing plant in Changshu, near Shanghai, as part of a 10.9 billion renminbi investment that will also include a new research and development centre and engine production facility," a JLR statement said.

JLR and Chery Automobile had formally laid the foundation stone for their new manufacturing facility in China, it added.

The project includes the creation of a new partnership brand to assemble models tailored specifically for the Chinese market, including the marketing and distribution, it added.

"The two companies plan to complete the Changshu facility in Jiangsu province during 2014. Construction of a new engine plant for production of fuel efficient engines is also part of the JV partnership agreement," it said.

The equal partnership will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company.

In a joint statement, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer Ralf Speth and Chery Automobile Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yin Tongyao said, "...We will now begin working in close collaboration on our partnership plans to harness the capabilities of our respective companies, to produce relevant, advanced models for Chinese consumers."

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company will also produce models for a domestic brand tailored specifically to local customer demand, the statement added.

The sales of Jaguar and Land Rover brands in China rose 80% in the first 10 months of 2012. In the 2011 calendar year, Jaguar Land Rover saw sales increase more than 60%, driven mainly by the Jaguar XJ and XF models, and strong demand for the fuel-efficient Range Rover Evoque.

Chery Automobile is the largest Chinese car exporter and one of the country's most productive automotive manufacturers.

GENERAL MOTORS LAUNCHING THE NEW CORVERTTE- DUBBED C7

Eagerly awaited by auto enthusiasts, the new Corvette - dubbed C7 by the faithful but known to GM and its suppliers by the development code Is widely expected to have a radically restyled exterior, a more upscale interior, a lighter chassis, and a more efficient engine and transmission.

There will be a six-month gap between the 2014 Corvette new C7 and the current C6 version, so the company can retool the Kentucky plant where the iconic sports car is built. GM will stop building the 2013 model in early February, and is due to start producing the 2014 model in volume in July.

The first of the new C7 Corvettes is expected to roll off the line in Bowling Green on June 30 - 60 years to the day that the first 1953 model was produced, according to two suppliers familiar with the automaker's plans but are not authorized to speak on behalf of GM.

The C7's formal unveiling in mid-January also marks the anniversary of the Corvette's debut in January 1953 as a GM Motorama "dream car" concept in New York. Since then, GM has built and sold more than 1.5 million Corvettes, although annual sales have slowed in recent years as higher vehicle prices, rising fuel and insurance costs, and growing competition from Europe and Asia have eroded its once fiercely loyal owner base.

To rekindle interest in the Corvette, especially among younger, affluent buyers who tend to favor imported brands, Chevrolet has completely overhauled the car for the first time since the sixth-generation model was launched in July 2004.

The result, according to chief engineer Tadge Juechter, is "a truly all-new Corvette. There are only two carryover parts from the C6 used in the C7 - the cabin air filter and the rear latch for the removable roof panel." One of the criticisms of recent Corvettes has been using interior parts and pieces from lesser priced GM vehicles, something that is not expected to be repeated on the new car.

Chevrolet even has redesigned the Corvette's familiar crossed-flags emblem for the 2014 model.

Other significant upgrades, according to the supplier sources, include a smaller, lighter aluminum V8 engine displacing around 5.5 liters, advanced features such as direction injection, cylinder cutoff and variable valve timing, and a new seven-speed manual transmission for improved fuel economy.

Prices, due to be announced next summer, are expected to range from just under $55,000 for the base model to nearly $120,000 for the top-of-the-line Corvette ZR1.

Chevrolet said dealers will continue to take orders for the current model until December.

FIFTH GENERATION FOR V8 IN GENERAL MOTORS

It's true that the V8 has advanced and moved from daily drivers and family sedans to high performance sports cars and pickups, this means that v8 is here to stay. In spite of hybrid and electric car advances, the internal combustion engine will continue to power the world for years to come and nothing can yet replaceit. The V8 power needed to do heavy lifting and provide high speed performance.

Earlier this month,
General Motors Co. unveiled its fifth-generation Small Block V8 that will debut next year in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. For nearly 50 years, the Small Block powered all of GM's brands.

But this 450-horsepower V8 is not anything like those brute machines from days gone by. Its high-tech features create a modern engine that is greener, cleaner and more powerful than ever before.

The LT-1, as the engine is known at GM, is a 6.2-liter direct injection V8 that is finely tuned with a multitude of features. Some of the technology is new and some is simply more refined. It can turn off four-cylinders while cruising down the highway, run cooler through advanced thermal dynamic engineering and explode nearly every droplet of fuel it injects by a specially designed piston head--that means even cleaner emissions.

From the sports car standpoint, this engine will create enough power to propel a Corvette from 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds and get an estimated 26 mpg on the highway. That alone is a feat 20 years ago would never have been thought possible. More importantly, this engine shows all of the incremental improvements engineers have developed to create an efficient ICE.

Converting fuel into energy in the most efficient way possible is the basic premise of any green strategy. Creating 450 pound-feet of torque, well, that's just a great perk. Through countless hours of computerized mapping and studying, engineers figured out how to disperse fuel completely inside the cylinder by injectors and a specially designed cylinder head. This allows the fuel to burn faster and more efficiently, creating all of that power.

HURRICANE SANY CAUSING A MAJOR LOSS IN AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRIES

In the short term, the superstorm is expected to hurt October sales figures, as
dealerships across the Eastern Seaboard missed several days of sales. But in the months ahead, analysts expect the storm to boost an already-burgeoning industry as Sandy's victims replace damaged vehicles.

"If anything, it'll make November an interesting month to watch," said Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst for Edmunds.com.

The storm decimated a region that accounts for approximately 20 percent of all U.S.
car sales. Early estimates say the halt in sales could cost automakers as many as 100,000 units in October figures, but delayed purchases could beef up November numbers instead.

The number of damaged or destroyed cars is hard to pinpoint only two days after Sandy hit.
Ford spokesperson Erich Merkle said it was too early to assess Sandy's impact on the company's October numbers or forecast for the year. A spokesperson for insurance giant State Farm said that 900 auto-related claims had been filed by early Wednesday afternoon, but that's only the beginning.

"We're just ramping up," she said.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, approximately 640,000 vehicles were lost. Hurricane Sandy, hitting a much more population-dense region, is expected to have a far more reaching effect.

New car sales were initially expected to rise approximately 12 percent in October, according to a TrueCar.com projection. The Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) of sales was expected to top 14.9 million units this year, the highest industry sales figures since 2007.

While October's projections may dwindle, the possibility of so many new car shoppers unexpectedly entering the market could push the SAAR above 15 million.

Luxury brands could potentially see the biggest temporary dips in their numbers – and potentially the biggest longer-term rewards. The New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. markets account for 25.4 percent of all
Acura sales, 23.6 percent of Mercedes-Benz sales and 23.2 percent of BMW sales, according to an Edmunds analysis of Polk car registration data.

HONDA JETS TO BE UNLISHED

Honda began studying small business jets in the late 1980s to gauge the potential growth opportunity of expanding into a different industry. After spending years developing, testing, and sourcing suppliers, Honda subsidiary Honda Aircraft Company has finally begun to manufacture the much anticipated HondaJet.
The HondaJet is an experiment in efficiency. Consistent with the parent brand, the HondaJet sets out to maximize aircraft cabin space and fuel efficiency, while being quieter and smoother than competitors. According to Honda, the Honda Jet is also the fastest in its class in addition to the major efficiency breakthroughs.

Power comes from two ultra-efficient GE Honda HF120 turbofan jet engines mounted on top of the wings, each putting out 9.12 kN of thrust. Top speed is 483 mph with a cruising speed of the same velocity. The fuel range of 1,611 miles won't get you from NY to LA in one trip, but still covers plenty of ground.

Honda initially wanted to deliver its first jet by the end of this year, but a few delays have pushed it back. There is still no final delivery date. Once production is up to speed, Honda says the will sell 70-100 jets per year.

Honda says the next major milestones are FAA approval and the jet's first delivery.
